The units are called "convertible" because the user can turn a dosimeter into a sound level meter and back again, simply by inserting a different microphone. This provides the most flexibility in a single unit and reduces the cost for the user.

In dosimeter mode, instruments are delivered pre-programmed with the operating parameters to measure noise dose to the relevant standards (ie OSHA) and measure from 30 to 140 dB in three 70 dB ranges. While the CEL1001/CEL1002 provides summary statistics for download, the CEL1004 stores individual readings to provide a full time history.

In sound level mode, instruments possess up to 20 configurable operating modes, which can be user programmed to suit any specific task. Simply selecting the mode and pressing "run" starts the measurement and displays current information. Download all the data to the PC for subsequent analysis.

Both models are suitable for workplace noise monitoring, simple hand held noise surveys and long term boundary monitoring.
